Outstanding students honored by Department of Applied General and Technical Studies

The Department of Applied General and Technical Studies of the College of Applied Science and Technology recently honored some of its outstanding students at a reception attended by friends, family, faculty and administrators.

The honorees are:

• Charles Salem Scholarship winner – Kan Wang, electronic engineering technology, pictured above with Dr. Irina Chernikova, department chair.
• AG&TS Departmental Student of the Year – Joseph Malysa, electronic engineering technology, nominated by Dr. Scott Randby, is pictured below with Randby.
• AGT&S English Student of the Year – Adele Pearcy, radiologic technology, nominated by Michelle Byrne.
• AGT&S Social Sciences Student of the Year – Katie Whyte, speech-language pathology and audiology, nominated by Dr. Amy Shriver Dreussi.
• AGT&S Math Student of the Year – Rikki Horrigan, CIS Networking, nominated by Dr. Katie Cerrone.

“We are so pleased to have the opportunity to recognize some of our exceptional students,” says Chernikova. “These decisions are not easy ones to make, as we have so many worthy students in our department and our college.”

The Charles Salem Scholarship is awarded annually in memory of the late Dr. Charles Salem, who taught in the department. It is given to a student on a competitive basis based on GPA as well as service to the campus and community. Wang has a GPA of 3.82.
